A Note From the Director, Erin Maxwell
Remember Me is a collection of memories, monologues and taped interviews. Beginning in January 2009, Queer Girl Theatre Project sought out members of the GLBT community who lived through the trials and tribulations that we, the younger queer generation, have only read about. In theses interviews, we wanted to dig a little deeper into the politics, the struggles, the joys and the loves of their lives. For me, the interviews provided a beautiful and unique window into someone else's untold story. These layers of memories are what shaped this play. I am grateful for the stories that were shared, and feel even more connected with my community. We have incorporated selected clips from these sessions, as well as excerpts from Doug Wright's I Am My Own Wife, Harvey Fierstein’s Safe Sex and a LIFE Magazine article entitled "The Secret Lives of Homosexuals" (1964). A special thanks to Joe Landini of The Garage, congratulations to the hard-working cast, assistant director Cynthia Brinkman, our dedicated interview crew: Rolla Selbak, Jennifer Jigour, Michelle Carfora and Rose Miller. Lastly, I extend a heartfelt thanks to Judy, Randy, Ruth, Allen and Bill for sharing their stories with us. May we continue listening to the music of the voices!
Queer Girl Theatre Project presents Remember Me, an exploration of untold GLBT histories filtered through a contemporary queer lens, featuring recorded interviews, dance, film, music and dramatic performance.

The theme is "FIRSTS" - first loves, first arrests, first performance on stage, first heartache, first PRIDE, you get the picture. Your piece doesn't have to stick with the theme, but we are looking for celebratory work that will springboard our little hearts and spirits into PRIDE! Rainbows, rainbows, rainbows!

A Note From The Director

A multi-disciplinary look at love, equality, and same-sex marriage. In a place where Party A and Party B battle lines are drawn, we take a look into the struggle for equality through hope and determination. Featuring a short documentary, theatre, music and modern dance.
We performed our first AIRspace Residency at the Garage Theatre with Love is Free. The performance began with our 10-minute documentary on the passing of California Prop 8, which eliminated the right of same-sex couple to marry. The documentary was followed by the beautiful choreography of Shaunna Vella in her dance, "I wish I knew how it would feel to be free”. The performance concluded with a queer take on Thorton Wilder's Our Town. It was a huge and happy accomplishment for us!
